Introducing legumes

Legumes are highly nutritious and kid-friendly food, so it is advisable to introduce them in baby’s diet at the right time (8 to 12 months). You can give them in boiled, mashed form, mixed with rice, pasta or veggies.  

According to the latest recommendations, due to its high nutritional value, legumes are suitable for babies from 8 months of age preferably added to vegetable purees.

Green beans, chickpeas and lentils are the first that can be given to your baby. Later, when your baby tolerates those well, you may introduce beans.

Benefits of giving Legumes:
-Rich in Healthy carbohydrates & B vitamins Legumes are an important source of energy. Energy release is slow and steady which keeps baby full and active for long time.

-Legumes are good source of proteins, & when combined with cereals like, pasta or rice, the protein quality is enhanced and is equivalent to the protein quality seen in animal foods. Legumes do not contain any unhealthy fats, hence great source of lean proteins

-Legumes are also rich in fiber and minerals, especially iron, potassium, phosphorus and selenium.
