Introducing Fish

Fish is one of the most healthy and nutritious food, but also one of the High allergenic food. Hence, as per the American Association of Pediatrics, fish, should be introduced in baby’s diet from1 year of age.

For the baby's diet to be balanced, offer fish at least two or three times a week and include oil-rich fish like salmon, trout, mackerel, herring or sardines at least once a week.
Start with homogenized fish, usually whitefish, then move on to other varieties. As fish is a highly perishable food, always go for the fresh one. You can also go for the frozen variety which has similar nutritional value too and also offers greater assurance of hygienic safety.
Shellfish should be offered little late. Being rich in connective tissue (hard), which is difficult to digest at this age, plus it’s potentially allergenic, so delay their entry into your baby's diet.

Benefits of Introducing Fish:

It is a rich source of Good Quality proteins and minerals such as iodine and phosphorus.
Its meat is very tender, so it is easily digested.
Oily fish like, Salmon is rich in Omega3; the healthy brainy fats, which are very important for baby’s brain development and functioning.

High in vitamin D, an important vitamin for strong bones.

Go for fish that are low in mercury; avoid swordfish and shark.
